This Black History Month, we honor the extraordinary legacy of George Washington Carver (1864-1943), a visionary scientist, educator, and innovator who transformed agriculture and empowered Black farmers. Known as the “Plant Doctor,” Carver’s contributions continue to inspire.

✨Highlights of GWC’s Legacy:

• First Black student and faculty member at Iowa State, earning both a B.S. and M.S. in Agriculture.
•  Taught at Tuskegee Institute and served as Director of Agriculture, dedicating his life to teaching Black farmers sustainable practices.
• Opened a mobile school on wheels to teach composting and crop growth techniques.
• Known as the “Peanut Champion,” Carver developed crop rotation systems and created over 300 peanut-based products, including rubber substitutes, insulation, and shaving cream.
• During WWII, he invented a method to create flour from dried sweet potatoes to address wheat shortages.

Carver’s brilliance extended beyond peanuts—his innovations improved nutrition, advanced sustainable farming, and uplifted communities. His legacy is celebrated through parks, schools, medals, museums, and more.
